TELENOR CYBERDEFENCE
Telenor Cyberdefence – The Nordic Standard of Trust
TELECOM
Knowit has developed a new communications concept and visual universe for Telenor Cyberdefence, inspired by Nordic nature, trust and the company’s long-standing security heritage. The result is The Nordic Standard of Trust.
In the cybersecurity industry, it is easy to blend into the crowd. Dark interfaces, hoodies, padlocks and dystopian visions of the future have long defined the category. Telenor Cyberdefence wanted to break with these conventions and find an expression that better reflects who they are, what they stand for and where they come from.
The ambition was to create a distinctive and recognisable brand that could compete internationally, with the company’s Nordic roots and strong security expertise as competitive advantages.
From fear to trust
Cybersecurity is about serious threats. But does that mean everyone in the industry has to look and sound the same?
Telenor Cyberdefence was established as a standalone commercial cybersecurity company in 2024, but its history goes back much further. As part of Telenor, the company draws on more than 170 years of experience in building, operating and protecting critical communications infrastructure.
Rather than starting with the threat, we chose to build the communication around what Telenor Cyberdefence is there to create: safety and trust.
The Nordic Standard of Trust is a customer promise and a creative framework rooted in the company’s Nordic origins, security expertise and long-standing legacy of trust.
Nature as a security system
To give the concept a visual language of its own, we turned to Nordic nature.
It is home to organisms and phenomena that have developed their own ways of protecting, adapting and defending themselves over thousands of years. These characteristics became the basis for a universe of symbols reflecting different aspects of Telenor Cyberdefence’s expertise and services.
Mountains represent robustness and resilience. The sea urchin protects a vulnerable core. The eagle provides perspective and the ability to detect threats from a distance. Clouds, pine cones, snowflakes, thistles and the northern lights add further qualities and stories to the universe.
Together, the symbols give Telenor Cyberdefence a distinctive and flexible visual language that makes advanced security expertise easier to understand, recognise and remember.

Transparency as a principle
Openness is a central part of the Nordic model of trust. That is why transparency is also built into the identity itself.
The symbols consist of transparent shapes and layers that overlap and work together. In the same way, effective cybersecurity is built on multiple layers of technology, expertise, people and insight.
Transparency therefore becomes both a distinctive visual feature and a metaphor for how Telenor Cyberdefence works: making the complex easier to understand and creating a sense of security through knowledge and clarity.

A universe designed to grow
The Nordic Standard of Trust was developed as more than a campaign concept. It is a communications system designed to work across markets, services and channels.
The symbols can stand alone, be combined and assembled in ever-new constellations. This gives Telenor Cyberdefence the flexibility to communicate different attributes and services within one coherent universe, from brand-building and campaigns to product communication, presentations and customer dialogue.
At the same time, it gives the company a visual identity that clearly stands apart from the established conventions of the cybersecurity sector.

A customer promise to live by
The Nordic Standard of Trust should not simply be something Telenor Cyberdefence says. The ambition is for customers to experience the promise in every interaction with the company, from technology and advisory services to people, culture and collaboration.
That is why employees from across the organisation have been involved through workshops, analysis, testing and further development.
The communications platform gives us a strong framework for how we should act, deliver and build trust, both internally and externally. Our ambition is for customers to experience The Nordic Standard of Trust in everything from technology and advisory services to culture, collaboration and customer dialogue.
