Robotic lawn mowing with built-in intelligence

Husqvarna aimed to strengthen its smart gardening offering by further advancing its battery-powered robotic lawn mowers. Meeting expectations around functionality, ease of use, and safety required improvements to both embedded software and interactive interfaces. In addition, they needed reliable IoT communication to enable remote control and monitoring—even for users without smartphones.

Knowit contributed deep technical expertise in embedded systems, developing software solutions that enhanced both the functionality and user experience of the Automower. We integrated user-friendly HMI components with a graphical display, making the robot more intuitive to operate and understand.

At the same time, we developed low-level drivers for USB, I2C, SPI, ultrasonic sensors, and imbalance detection sensors for the cutting disk—ensuring precise, real-time performance. To enable seamless connectivity and remote diagnostics, we also created secure M2M communication tailored for robust performance across diverse user scenarios.

Husqvarna Automower is a battery-powered robotic mower that uses GPS and sensor technology to create an efficient and safe mowing pattern. Equipped with self-sharpening blades and safety features like collision sensors, it requires minimal maintenance. IoT connectivity enables GPS tracking, anti-theft features, and remote control via mobile app. For users without a smartphone, SMS-based notifications and tracking are also available.

Thanks to the IoT solution, Husqvarna has taken another step toward making gardening smarter, safer, and more accessible for all. Automower is now easier to use, more energy-efficient, and simpler to monitor remotely—regardless of user type. The improved system architecture increases operational uptime and enhances the overall user experience, reinforcing Husqvarna’s leading position in the market.
