Personal injury sustained in road traffic accidents is compensated

Those who suffer personal injury in a road traffic accident have the right to economic compensation from their insurance company. The Swedish Road Traffic Injuries Commission (TSN) exists to ensure that those who suffer injury receive fair and reasonable compensation in accordance with applicable legislation and praxis. Each year, the Commission sets out a number of tables for the calculation of compensation for pain and suffering, medical disability, disfiguration and amputations.

Copyright and ethics

When the Commission assesses the level of compensation for disfiguring injuries such as scarring, they use a table of injuries with associated reference photographs. These photographs have been collected over a long period of time and are ethically sensitive. Publication consent obtained from those in the photographs does not apply to internet publication. Because of this, they have previously only existed in physical form – as photographs in a physical file with limited access.

Injury make-up and photographic models

By using injury make-up, photographic models and photomontage, we were able to recreate a complete archive of previous photographs of the various types of injury and location on the body. These picture are not ethically sensitive and are therefore more suited for use on a digital platform accessible to all.

Created images and the solution developed

Knowit dealt with the process of creating the images and developing the solution for publication via an interactive online application. Here, the visitor chooses the relevant area of the body and level of injury. High-definition images make it easy to see and understand different types of scar.

The solution is based on EPiServer CMS. This information is now available to everyone and has streamlined the assessment process. It is now possible for the person with the scar to make their own judgement.
