Sustainable digital experience through a comprehensive website renewal
Rejlers' website transformation was more than just a redesign—it was a strategic shift toward a unified and efficient digital presence.

BACKGROUND
A unified website to support Rejlers’ vision and growth
Founded in 1942, Rejlers is an engineering and consultancy company operating in Sweden, Finland, Norway, and the United Arab Emirates. With expertise in energy, industry, infrastructure, buildings and resilience, Rejlers supports sustainable transformation and helps clients meet future challenges. The vision “Home of the Learning Minds” guides the entire group.
However, Rejlers’ previous websites did not effectively support the company’s goals. The web presence was fragmented across multiple separate sites, each utilizing different technical solutions that were not optimally implemented. As a result, website traffic was scattered across different platforms and domains. The company needed a unified and well-structured digital experience that would attract both new customers and potential employees.
DESIGN
Objectives
The website renewal was initiated with a concept study conducted by North Patrol. Rejlers aimed to establish a unified corporate identity through the redesign, leading to the creation of a new corporate website that would house all country-specific sites in a clear and structured manner.
The primary objectives for the new website included:
· Supporting customer acquisition
· Attracting new employees
· Presenting essential investor information
Additionally, the new website needed to feature a modern, brand-aligned design and an intuitive user experience that would seamlessly guide users through their journey. Another key goal was to enhance the efficiency of website maintenance, enabling better content management across different countries.

Bold and user-centric approach
Following the conceptual phase, the website was further defined in detail. Through a series of workshops, user journeys were mapped within the corporate website, ensuring seamless navigation between the main site and country-specific pages. Based on these user flows, an information architecture was designed to standardize the structure of the websites, making it easier for users to navigate and consistently find the information they need.
"From the very first meetings, the client expressed their desire to create something that stands out from the competition and encouraged us to challenge them with bold suggestions. This set an exciting foundation for the project and inspired our entire team to offer innovative solutions. For example, the final design features a highly dynamic layout, where varying element widths replace the traditional 50/50 column structure."

All workshop materials were organized using Miro, creating a single board where all stakeholders could easily access the results later via a single link.
The design process followed a content-first approach—wireframes for all key elements and pages were created using as much real content as possible. This ensured that content could be effectively displayed, maintaining clarity for users while capturing their interest without overwhelming them with excessive information. The final step was developing a new dynamic visual identity in Figma based on the wireframes.
"We challenged both ourselves and the client to ensure that the final solution would serve both Rejlers and their target audiences in the best possible way."

IMPLEMENTATION
Technical solution to support Rejlers’ content management needs
During the planning phase, a comprehensive and detailed technical specification document was created, providing a clear blueprint for the entire technical solution and forming the backbone of the development process.
The site was built as a WordPress multisite installation, allowing fully independent country sites with multiple language versions as needed. Each site uses the same WordPress theme, which ensures a cohesive visual identity across all pages. The solution also made it easy to manage content creator access restrictions.
Content is managed using WordPress' Gutenberg block editor, with several custom-built blocks developed specifically for Rejlers. Content was categorized into multiple custom post types and category groups to streamline and guide daily content management. Additionally, multiple page templates were created using WordPress patterns, enabling content creators to quickly set up uniform page structures.

Technical Features
The system includes multiple integrations:
- Stock exchange releases are retrieved from Cision in real-time for two different sites. Cision’s stock charts were also customized to match the website’s design.
- Contacts and user data are imported from the client’s Entra ID system, with multiple Active Directory (AD) groups controlling site-specific data and access permissions.
- Job listings are automatically imported into WordPress from Teamtailor.
Additional functionalities were developed to enhance the user experience:
- A custom Pickit image bank plugin allows images to be selected directly from the WordPress admin panel.
- The site search functionality was built using Algolia, providing a robust and scalable search solution.
To monitor website performance, suitable analytics tools were evaluated, ultimately leading to the selection of Piwik Pro, which complies with GDPR regulations. Additionally, custom dashboards were created in Looker Studio, providing internal stakeholders with relevant data in a clear and accessible format.

FINAL RESULTS
A future-ready website
The first new website to launch was the corporate site in October 2024, followed by the Finnish site in December 2024. The Swedish, Norwegian and Abu Dhabi site was launched in the spring of 2025.
"With the new platform, we have transitioned from an outdated and complex system to an open environment that reflects our role as community builders. The new site is high-quality, fast, and flexible while clearly communicating our focus areas—energy transition, industrial transformation, and the future-proofing of communities. It strengthens our offering and our employer brand, which was one of our key goals."

The phased rollout of country-specific sites was a strategic decision reflected in the launch plan. All sites would ultimately be hosted under the same domain, but to ensure a smooth transition, the previous website was partially replaced in stages. Some older sites remained operational while their domain structure had already been moved to WordPress. This was achieved with a simple server-side proxy, allowing different systems to coexist under a single domain.
"Collaboration with the client has been excellent—open, transparent, and solution-driven. We have worked together to find the best solutions while ensuring that the budget remains reasonable and new functionalities are carefully considered. While the client has always made the final decisions, they have consistently sought input from Knowit’s experts before moving forward."
– Niko Ristola, Project Manager, Knowit
"We are extremely satisfied with the Knowit team. They guided us professionally, clearly, and with a forward-thinking approach. Throughout the project, we felt we were in safe hands—anything was possible."
