HUSQVARNA
Husqvarna reduces downtime with connected tools
To reduce operational disruptions and cut costs in its construction business, Husqvarna invested in a secure and intelligent connectivity solution. In partnership with Knowit, the company developed a robust gateway enabling seamless cloud integration and real-time remote monitoring. The result is a smarter approach to service, improved machine availability, and the foundation for data-driven, predictive maintenance.
BACKGROUND
Husqvarna is a global technology company offering a wide range of machinery and tools for the construction, gardening, and industrial sectors. Within its construction and diamond tools division, the company set out to modernize its fleet by leveraging real-time data and connected devices—not just for usage monitoring, but to take a more proactive approach to the entire operational lifecycle.

CHALLENGE
Predicting failures before they happen
Unexpected equipment breakdowns lead to high costs in terms of both repairs and lost productivity. The need to increase uptime and reduce maintenance expenses is a key driver of digital transformation in the industry. By using real-time analytics, potential failures can be identified and prevented before they occur, helping to:
- Reduce unplanned failures by up to 25%
- Minimize unnecessary site visits
- Increase machine utilization by up to 15%
SOLUTION
A secure gateway for remote monitoring and analytics
Knowit developed a custom-designed gateway that connects Husqvarna’s machines to cloud-based systems. This solution enables real-time data collection, analysis, and action—enhancing both machine availability and preventive maintenance capabilities.
The gateway is built on technologies such as Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), LTE-M, and GNSS, and uses machine-to-machine (M2M) communication for stable, low-power data transmission. Custom firmware was developed for microcontrollers, with a strong focus on security, reliability, and energy efficiency.
Remote monitoring is handled through a cloud platform that provides insights into machine status, usage patterns, and any detected anomalies. Secure remote authentication, wireless over-the-air (OTA) updates, and end-to-end encryption protect all data—fully aligned with European cybersecurity regulations.
The solution is further enhanced with edge AI, enabling anomaly detection directly on the device and allowing it to automatically adjust operations or send alerts. Predictive analytics help optimize service intervals and operational uptime, while significantly reducing the risk of costly interruptions.
RESULTS
From reactive to proactive operations
With Knowit’s solution, Husqvarna has gained a powerful tool to minimize downtime and increase efficiency. Real-time monitoring and predictive insights make it possible to address issues before they impact production, while also reducing the need for manual inspections.
The result is a reliable, secure, and business-critical platform that supports Husqvarna’s transition from reactive to proactive maintenance—strengthening its position in a highly competitive market.
How the solution contributes to Agenda 2030
Goal 9: Industry, innovation and infrastructure. By modernizing equipment with connected technologies and AI, Husqvarna is fostering a smarter and more sustainable industrial environment.
