The making of internet of things (IoT) – Automower® Connect

Husqvarna Group is a world-leading producer of outdoor power products including chainsaws, trimmers, robotic lawn mowers and garden tractors.

Considering Husqvarna's constant product development driven by end-user value creation and innovation, it was a natural step to engage in the Internet-of-Things context with the launch of the Husqvarna Automower® Connect solution. When planning the development project, Husqvarna identified the need for support from an experienced partner.

To ensure a successful project, Husqvarna selected Knowit for their experience and dedication as its development partner for important parts of the solution. The complete IT system including back-end and front-end solutions were developed by Knowit. Over time, Knowit also continues to provide development and operations support for the IoT system. As an additional service, Knowit also aided in the development of Husqvarna's organizational setup in the transition towards service orientation as complement to product orientation.

Husqvarna Automower® Connect became a great success for Husqvarna and was greatly appreciated by their customers. It gives the end users peace of mind and convenience by enabling remote monitoring and control of the robotic mower.

The IoT solution also increases the security through theft notification and tracking of the mower. It gives you full control over mower all the time. The user can start, stop and park the Automower®, view and modify the clip settings and receive alerts and track the mower's GPS position - with a smartphone. In addition GPS tracking and error messages via SMS is available for non-smartphone users.
